Sometimes the best recipes happen when you stop overthinking and combine all the things you’re craving. This is my High Protein Gut-Friendly Cottage Cheese & Labneh Toast.

To those who don’t know what labneh, it’s a creamy and tangy strained yogurt and is a staple in many Middle Eastern and Mediterranean cuisine. It’s rich in probiotics (specifically the Yaza Foods Labneh) and absolutely delicious!

I was stuck between making a probiotic-rich labneh toast or a high-protein cottage cheese toast, so naturally, I did both, because life is too short not to make your food fun. It’s become one of my new favorite easy breakfasts (and also my patients’).

As a dietitian, I’m always looking for ways to make meals more satisfying without overcomplicating them, and this one checks every box: high in protein (35g protein for the whole batch), packed with gut-friendly probiotics, and delicious.

If you’re trying to eat in a way that supports both your gut health and keeps you full for hours, this is exactly the kind of meal I’d recommend adding to your routine.

And honestly… za’atar, mint, and creamy whipped cheese on sourdough? You can’t beat it!

Yields: 2

Prep time: 5 minutes

Total time: 7 minutes

This recipe is vegetarian.

Ingredients:

1 cup cottage cheese

½ cup labneh (Yaza Foods is my go-to brand)

½ tbsp extra virgin olive oil

Salt to taste

1 slice sourdough bread, toasted

Garnish:

Za’atar

Nigella seeds (black seeds)

Fresh mint, finely chopped

Instructions:

  1. Blend cottage cheese, labneh, and olive oil until smooth and thick.

  2. Taste and add salt as needed.

  3. Add mixture to a ziplock bag, cut a small corner, and pipe onto toast.

  4. Garnish with za’atar, nigella seeds, and fresh mint. Slice and enjoy!
